DIFFERENT APPROACHES TO TEACHING FOREIGN LANGUAGE STUDENTS IN NON-LINGUISTIC HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS

Abstract

In non-linguistic universities, the so-called project methodology has been widely used, which has been developed within the framework of the humanistic direction in teaching foreign languages. The main principle of the project methodology is to shift the emphasis from various types of exercises to the active conversational activity of students, which requires language and speech skills. The application of this technique makes it possible to turn practical knowledge of a foreign language into a debatable, research club in which interesting problems of practical importance are solved. The orientation of the teacher's activity in the implementation of these principles is determined by the degree of students' training to work independently, creatively. Topics for such classes - discussions are selected according to the topics proposed in the texts for studying reading in engineering and technical specialties. (For example, after the topic Engineering Profession, discussion topics could be suggested Why have you chosen this profession? or Is engineering profession becoming more popular nowdays?)
