Abstract

The article provides a brief overview of the biography and work of R. Ellison , in particular his main work, the novel The Invisible Woman: briefly characterizes the themes and problems of the novel, features of its poetics, discusses the phenomenon of his success and its influence on Ellison 's literary reputation and status as one of the classics of American and world literature of the twentieth century.
